About Keith Griffin
About
My name is Keith Griffin, and I have dedicated more than 43 years to serving students, families, and educators. I believe every decision should begin with one simple question: What is best for our children? That commitment has guided my career and is why I am seeking to serve on the Fort Mill School Board.
Although I grew up in nearby Indian Land, my wife was raised in Fort Mill, and together we have been part of this community since we met in 1976. We have built our lives here, raised our family here, and watched our children and grandchildren benefit from the outstanding education provided by the Fort Mill School District. My wife dedicated 35 years to the Fort Mill School District as both a middle school English Language Arts teacher and a Literacy Specialist.
I earned both my bachelor's and master's degrees in education from Winthrop University. I began my career in Fort Mill at Fort Mill High School in 1989. For nine years, I taught science while also coaching baseball and football, serving as Athletic Director, and later as Assistant Principal.
In 1999, I became Principal of Gold Hill Middle School, where I served until 2005 before opening Springfield Middle School as its inaugural principal in 2006. I had the privilege of leading Springfield Middle for 17 years, helping build a culture centered on high expectations, student success, and strong relationships. In 2016, Springfield Middle was recognized as a "School to Watch," reflecting the hard work and dedication of our students, faculty, staff, and community.
While I retired from South Carolina public education in 2022, I have never retired from serving students. I continue to volunteer in the district by assisting at Springfield Middle, mentoring students, and serving as a volunteer assistant baseball coach at Banks Trail Middle School.
Education has always been a family calling. My wife and I instilled a love of teaching and serving children in all three of our children, and our family's commitment to children continues today. Every one of our children and grandchildren has attended or is attending Fort Mill schools, and we remain deeply invested in the continued success of our district.
My experiences as a teacher, coach, athletic director, assistant principal, principal, mentor, volunteer, parent, and grandparent have given me a broad perspective on the opportunities and challenges facing our schools. I understand our district from the classroom to the boardroom, and I am committed to ensuring that Fort Mill continues to provide every student with the exceptional education they deserve.
